Congratulation Varun for plenary presentation

Varun presented his project titled “Circadian desynchronization and metabolic stress disrupt mito-nuclear signaling to drive heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)” at the Department of Medicine Research Day at Pitt on April 28, 2025.

Congratulation Dom for fan favorite poster award

Domenic won the fan favorite award for his poster titled “RIMOC1, a novel regulator of mitochondrial function and mitophagy in β-cells” presented at the OACD poster symposium held on April 14, 2025 at Pitt.

A BIG round of applause for Dom, Joey, Amit, and Varun for presenting their work and representing Yechoor lab at the DOM research day at Pitt.

Mission statement:

Cellular proliferation, differentiation, and quiescence are integral aspects of the development and maturation of all organs. Disorders in these processes underlie many of the diseases that afflict humans, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, aging, neurodegenerative disorders, and others. Our mission is to understand the mechanisms underlying these diseases, with an added focus on diabetes, obesity, and other metabolic disorders, and leverage them to develop new therapies.

Major areas of focus are:

  • Discovering mechanisms of why pancreatic β-cells fail in diabetes.
  • Circadian clock regulation of metabolism and stress pathways and their role in diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease.
  • Fundamental mechanisms that govern cell decisions about cell fate, maturation, resilience, and death and their role in metabolic, degenerative, and oncogenic diseases.
